The rumour mill at FC Bayern is churning once again. This time it’s not about a new coach, but about Thomas Tuchel. According to consistent reports, the 50-year-old is getting closer and closer to staying at the German record champions. It has now been announced that those responsible at Säbener Straße have agreed that Tuchel should become the „new head coach“ at FCB. However, it has not yet been finalised.
Following the cancellations of Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick, Bayern have a new top candidate for the coaching position: Thomas Tuchel!
On Wednesday, numerous media outlets reported that both Munich and Tuchel himself are open to working together again. As reported by Sky, the Bayern bosses have even decided that they would like to start the new season with Tuchel. In plain language, this means that the 50-year-old is currently the first option for his own successor.
According to the pay-TV broadcaster, concrete talks were held yesterday between the Bayern bosses and Tuchel’s management. Both sides are now working on reversing the release of 21 February.
Despite the basic willingness of the club and the coach, there is still no complete agreement between the parties. The plan could still fail, according to Sky.
Accordingly, the contract term in particular could become the sticking point in further negotiations. Tuchel’s original contract runs until the summer of 2025, and the coach and his management are now demanding a new contract until at least 2026.
Interestingly, should Bayern reach an agreement with Tuchel regarding the duration of his contract, nothing stands in the way of Tuchel remaining at the club. The decision in this regard is expected to be made soon. Bayern originally wanted to present a new coach in April.
Should the Tuchel comeback fall through, Bayern have two alternatives on their radar: Roberto De Zerbi and Erik ten Hag. However, the focus at the Isar is currently only on Tuchel.
