Bayern bosses react to recent transfer rumours

Bayern's recent transfer rumours were all over the place - according to multiple media reports, Bayern have received rejection after rejection, but what's actually true when it comes to all the reported transfer rumours?

Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl has talked about that before the game against PSG: “Of course we checked whether [signing] a player like Nico Williams was possible. But with the salary demands that we heard, just to speak to the player, we as FC Bayern quickly withdrew and said we won't do it.”

Uli Hoeneß also commented on the Spaniard: “We were all surprised [that he extended his contract]. I had close contact with Hansi Flick, who's currently in Tegernsee on holiday and they were surprised, too, because they had more or less an agreement with him. I don't what he [Nico Williams] wants, but in my opinion they [Bilbao] are just trying to get more money, because next year he will cost more than €60 million. He's not an option next season.”

“We can't do anything about it when such a player [Williams] extends his contract. We still have time, the transfer window is open until the end of August. We decided internally, that we'd only do reasonable business. We still have Gnabry and Coman. I'm not sure about paying €60, €70 or €80 million for a back-up.”

It's interesting to see, that both Eberl and Hoeneß decided to speak on any transfer rumours - Sky Germany reporter Kerry Hau has informed his followers on Twitter/X, that Bayern's CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen told all journalists in Atlanta before Bayern's game against PSG, that he “won't comment on any transfer rumours, since it wouldn't be of use anyway” - there is a clear problem within Bayern's camp when it comes to their transfer strategy and communication.

That being said, Uli Hoeneß also cleared up the rumours surrounding Bayern's interest in Rafael Leão: “No, no, no - he never was a topic for us. Max [Eberl] told me he held talks, but they weren't fruitful.”

That leaves Nick Woltemade as the last player Bayern have been talking to over the last few days - and of course, Uli Hoeneß also commented on him: “I consider him a very, very good player, who would fit in perfectly with us. I would be very pleased, if that happens this year - and if not, then next year.”

Let's see what's in store for Bayern and their transfer plans over the next few days and weeks, until the 2025/26 season starts.
