Although Manchester United have been linked, Bayern Munich have no intention of letting Leon Goretzka leave.

The potential departure of Paul Pogba should have United eyeing a variety of possible midfield replacements. When I saw Goretzka’s name linked, with apparent doubts over a recent contract offer, I feared this would be the transfer saga that sees a player use the Red Devils to secure a better deal.

Thankfully, it doesn’t feel like United have actually pushed the boat out to sign the player.

The latest news from Bayern Munich makes it clear that the Germany international is much more likely to stay in the Bundesliga.

Newly appointed manager Julian Nagelsmann acknowledges that Goretzka’s current contract is set to expire, but he remains “confident” that he’ll sign a new deal with the German champions.

Goretzka played for Bayern against Napoli and after the match, Nagelsmann was asked to comment on the midfielder’s future (via Eurosport): “I’m not involved enough that I have a say every day. I stay out of these issues.

“Of course I have talked to him about my plans for him. I’ve told him I’d be happy if he extended and I’m also confident. There are several topics involved when it comes to discussing a contract extension.

“I’ll continue to focus on the sports side of things and show him he can be one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe. He has potential to get even better.”
