After losing Niklas Süle and record-signing Lucas Hernandez within the span of less than a week, Bayern Munich are officially in full crisis mode.

Bayern are now down to two trained first-team centre-backs: the injury-prone Jérôme Boateng and Ben Pavard.

Should either of them go down, either Javi Martínez or David Alaba will likely be forced to play out of position.

Otherwise, they’ll have to promote 19-year-old Lars Lukas May from Bayern Munich II, who only has two first-team appearances to his name thus far.

In the meantime, the Bayern brass are already making plans to sign a new centre-back in January. According to Goal, Bayern representatives have been in touch with the agent of Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Núñez.

Núñez grabbed the attention of not only scouts around the world, but also Spain boss Robert Moreno after he led Bilbao to a 1-0 season-opening win over Barcelona with a phenomenal performance that resulted in his first Spain call-up and cap.

The 22-year-old Núñez, who is under contract until 2023, has a reported €30m release clause and is also being targeted by Arsenal and Everton.
