Everton’s Marcel Brands has lived up to his word and focused on the youth.

On Wednesday, Everton signed 18-year-old attacking midfielder Anthony Gordon to his first professional contract, despite being targeted by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

They also signed 18-year-old midfielder Kyle John to his first deal as well.

Back in November, manager Marco Silva had expressed his desire to hold onto Gordon.

“He’s a talent. He’s a player we want to keep, of course. It is our goal to keep our best players, not only the players playing in the first-team.

“If we want to grow and achieve something important we need to keep our best players.

“We are here to look to the young players and to work with them and improve.”

Gordon has earned eight caps for the England U-18s and made his Everton first-team debut in their Europa League clash with Apollon Limassol in December 2017.
