After two wins in the Champions League this past week, Germany’s biggest sides were once again in action this weekend with Bayern Munich travelling to Köln and Borussia Dortmund going to Armenia Bielefeld.
Here’s how they got on.
Scorers: Drexler 83′ Müller 13′ (PEN), Gnabry 45′
Bayern Munich got off to the perfect start as they opened their account for the day on 13 minutes thanks to a Thomas Müller penalty.
The Bavarian side are inarguably the best in Europe right now and proved that once again right on half time as Serge Gnabry raced in on goal and finished brilliantly for their second.
After the break it was pretty plain sailing for Hansi Flick’s side who tried to see out the game in safe fashion, but the last 10 minutes were made interesting by Dominick Drexler’s deflected effort going past Manuel Neuer and into the back of the net.
But they held out to take all three points and go joint-top of the division.
Scorers: Hummels 53′, 71′
It was a snoozefest of a first half, with the home side happy to park the proverbial bus at Dortmund willing to play the waiting game.
Over 400 passes from the visitors, and just one chance from Manuel Akanji.
After the break, the away side got into a different gear and eventually scored after Mats Hummels deflected a header into the back of the net.
And the centre-back completed an unlikely double midway through the second 45, brilliantly heading home after a cross from the right-hand side.
