Bayer Leverkusen want to pay Fran García’s €10m release clause. According to Sergio Santos of Relevo, the German club have already spoken to both Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid.

Madrid have 50% of the player’s rights and a right of first refusal and Los Blancos must now decide if they will exercise their option and pay the clause, in which case they would have to pay €5m. If they do not do so, they would earn €5m but would lose any rights to the left-back.

García is a player that Real Madrid were thinking of bringing in next season, so this forces them to act and possibly bring the decision forward by six months.

Rayo’s preferred option at the moment is for Madrid to exercise their right, because they hope that if that happens the player can stay on loan at the club until the end of the season.

He is a key player for Andoni Iraola and a loan back to Vallecas would save Rayo from looking for a replacement with just days left in the transfer window.

Xabi Alonso wants him in his side in Germany, but on the other hand, García has always said that he dreams of returning to Real Madrid and that he is happy in Vallecas.
