Bayer Leverkusen’s stunning campaign continued Friday evening with a 2-1 victory over Mainz, seeing Xabi Alonso’s side move 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Goals from Granit Xhaka and Robert Andrich were enough for the Bundesliga leaders to collect all three points and extend their lead at the top, and most importantly, make German football history.

The win saw Leverkusen set a new record for the longest unbeaten run across all competitions in the history of German football, having avoided defeat in 33 consecutive games.

Should they continue to cruise to the finish line and collect the Bundesliga title, it will be the first in club history.

Not only is this Leverkusen side putting on a weekly show, but they will live on in the German football record books for the foreseeable future!
