Bayer Leverkusen's history-making campaign under Xabi Alonso etched it's name into the record books on Thursday.
Already with a 2-0 lead before the game kicked off at the Bay Arena, the German champions came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 on the night and to reach the Europa League final, where they will face Atalanta.
It means that they broke a near-60 year record in the process, overtaking Benfica's 48 game unbeaten record, the previous longest unbeaten run in European football that has stood since 1965.
Records could continue to tumble before the season is out. The German side still have the chance to become the first side to go an entire Bundesliga season unbeaten, while they are just four games (two in the League and two finals) from an unbeaten treble, which they will be massive favourites to achieve.
No wonder Alonso wanted to stay put this summer.
