Sport Bild reports that Bayer Leverkusen are nearing the completion of their first signing of the winter transfer window and will provide much-needed depth to the squad.
Vélez Sarsfield striker Alejo Sarco is to join the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract. at the end of this month. The 18-year-old has played nine games for the senior side in the Argentine first division this season. Leverkusen had tried to sign Sarco in the summer but Vélez Sarsfield blocked the move, much to the dismay of Sarco. This resulted in the 18-year-old being banned from the first team as he refused to extend his contract at the club.
Sarco is set to provide much-needed depth to the Leverkusen striking options and with Victor Boniface and Patrik Schick both out injured, Sarco could be given a chance much earlier than expected.
The Argentine is likely not going to be the only signing that Leverkusen make in the winter. Rayan Cherki is an option for Leverkusen as they look for a backup and replacement option for Florian Wirtz, in case he leaves the club in the summer. However, a move for Cherki would take up Leverkusen’s whole budget for the winter.
