Manchester United’s transfer policy over the last decade has left a lot to be desired with many players failing to live up to expectations after moving to Old Trafford.

One of which was German superstar Bastian Schweinsteiger who signed for United from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2015.

Schweinsteiger made just 35 appearances during a two-year stay in Manchester, eventually moving to the MLS to join Chicago Fire.

Despite struggling to find his best form at United, the midfielder admits he doesn’t regret joining the club that he loved as a child.

As reported by Four Four Two, Schweinsteiger shared a heartwarming story about his memories from being a young budding footballer in Germany, using United as motivation to get him up in the morning.

“I didn’t regret joining Manchester United at all – it was the right decision. When I was about 10 and playing football at home, I was wearing a Manchester United jersey.

“I also had an alarm clock that was Old Trafford and when you pressed it, it went ‘Glory, glory, Man United!’ So I always said that if I ever left Bayern Munich, it would only be for Manchester United.”

The World Cup winner also reminisced about a previous visit to Old Trafford back when he was still with Bayern, who ended up knocking United out of the Champions League on the night. The home faithful’s reaction managed to leave a mark on the German.

“We faced Manchester United at Old Trafford, lost 3-2 but won on away goals, with Arjen Robben scoring a nice goal.

“When we left the field, all of the United supporters applauded us. That’s not normal in football. I really liked that,” he added.

Schweinsteiger also admitted that Owen Hargreaves and Franz Beckenbauer had an influence on his move with the pair urging him to “experience a new culture once in his life”.

Although United didn’t see the best of the midfielder, fans of the club still hold Schweinsteiger in high regard with the 39-year-old continuing to show his support from afar.

No doubt the former red will be fully behind United to end the season strong, and in doing so add a 13th FA Cup trophy to their honours list with a trip to Wembley to face Manchester City at the end of the month.
