Baroni Keen to Reunite With Napoli Midfielder at Lazio

Lazio coach Marco Baroni is hoping to have Michael Folorunsho at his disposal once more following their prosperous collaboration at Hellas Verona last season.

The 26-year-old spent two years among Lazio’s youth ranks, representing the club’s U17 and U19 sides. He was then sold to Francavilla in 2017 before signing for Napoli in 2019. Since then, the Italian has been constantly on loan, representing the likes of Bari, Pordenone and Reggina.

However, after a series of experiences in Serie B, Folorunsho finally had his breakthrough in the top flight. He cemented himself as one of the best revelations in Serie A last season while on loan at Verona. The attacking midfielder scored five goals for the Gialloblu, including some stellar strikes, eventually earning himself a surprise call-up for Italy’s ill-fated Euro 2024 campaign.

Lazio Coach Baroni Would Relish Folorunsho Reunion

Despite recently signing a new contract with Napoli, the player has seemingly lost the favour of the club’s new coach Antonio Conte, explains Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà. Moreover, the Partenopei are closing in on Brighton’s Billy Gilmour and Frosinone’s Marco Brescianini, so Folorunsho could soon become surplus to requirements.

The source adds that Atalanta were close to signing the Roman midfielder earlier this summer, while Fiorentina have recently inquired about the situation. Nevertheless, Pedullà reveals how Baroni would be eager to reunite with his former Verona pupil at Lazio. Bringing back Folorunsho would cost the Italian capital side circa €12 million.

The journalist notes that Lazio’s priority at the moment is offloading the deadwood before turning their attention to the newcomers. The Biancocelesti would like to sign a midfielder and a winger, with Armand Laurienté the favourite for the latter role.
