Barnsley have made an offer to Burton Albion for the signing of centre back Tom Hamer, journalist Alan Nixon has reported.

Hamer joined Burton from Oldham Athletic back in the 2021 January transfer window for an undisclosed fee.

Since then, the 23-year-old has gone on to make 105 appearances in all competitions for the Brewers, scoring six goals in that time.

But with Burton battling against relegation in League One right now, it seems Hamer is attracting attention from a club pursuing a place in the play-offs in the third-tier this season.

According to this latest update from Nixon, Barnsley have now made an opening bid to sign Hamer, that is thought to be worth around £150,000.

Tykes manager Michael Duff is apparently hoping to involve Hamer in the centre of defence, while the player himself is said to be keen to make the move to Oakwell.

True False

As things stand, Hamer’s contract with Burton is set to expire at the end of this season, meaning this is their last chance to receive a fee for his services.

The Verdict

This does feel as though it could be a rather good signing for Barnsley if they manage to get it done.

Hamer already has plenty of experience playing at League One level from his time at Burton, where he does seem to have impressed with his performances.

As a result, he could certainly be a useful option in Barnsley’s back line, and at 23-years-old, he does offer them a long term asset if they can get this deal done.

With his contract expiring in the summer, and the player himself seemingly keen on the deal, you also that Barnsley ought to be confident about getting this one over the line.
