Kevin Phillips believes Matty Cash would “prove to be a bargain” if West Ham signed the Nottingham Forest wide man this summer.

Cash is keen to taste the Premier League and is ready to leave his boyhood club before the early 5 October transfer deadline.

When asked by Football Insider if he thought the defender would be a welcome addition at the London Stadium, Phillips said: “I think he is ready for the Premier League.

“He has made a name for himself at Nottingham Forest and they just missed out on promotion last season. I have watched him a lot having been involved in the Championship a lot over the past few years. He is a talented player.

“It is always a slight gamble making that step up but I think Fredericks did from Fulham.

“A good attacking full-back who can of course play further forward as well. He has got the energy to get up and down.

“If West Ham could sign him, he could prove to be a bargain because he will not cost the earth.”

The Hammers are in desperate need of a right-back this summer after Pablo Zabaleta and Jeremy Ngakia left the London Stadium upon the expiration of their contracts last month.

It leaves only Ryan Fredericks and the young Ben Johnson as recognised right-backs at the club.
