This weekend’s fixtures in the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship have been postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The decision has been made following discussions this morning amongst various parties including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and in-line with the guidance set out in Operation London Bridge.

This weekend was set to bring the start of the new Barclays Women’s Super League season. Four of the six scheduled games were set to be staged in men’s stadiums while some clubs were hoping to break attendance records. Tottenham Hotspur were set to kick-off the campaign at home to Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime while in Sunday’s standout games we were set to see Chelsea play at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2019 and Manchester City take on Arsenal in a potential battle at the top.

The Barclays Women’s Championship were also set to stage an exciting fixture card. Promotion rivals Birmingham City and Crystal Palace were scheduled to meet at St Andrew’s Stadium in the standout game of the weekend while London City Lionesses were paired with Bristol City in another exciting fixture.

Further details regarding the rescheduling of this weekend’s matches along with any additional impact on the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship’s respective fixture lists will be announced in due course.
