Barclays Women’s Championship leaders London City Lionesses were held by Southampton, Bristol City had to settle for a draw at Durham.

Sarah Ewens made the breakthrough for London City Lionesses in the latter stages, only for Southampton to equalise with a Paige Peake 90th-minute penalty.

Durham held second-placed Bristol City to a draw, as Shania Hayles’ opener was cancelled out before the break, when Jess Clarke played in Rio Hardy to round Fran Bentley and slot home.

Charlton Athletic edged Sheffield United to go third on goal-difference. Beth Roe’s corner with 11 minutes left was smashed home by Lauren Bruton for her first goal of the season.

Birmingham City took the lead at Blackburn on half-time, with Siobhan Wilson’s free-kick. Before the hour mark, Jade Pennock set up Lucy Quinn to fire into the bottom corner.

Crystal Palace leapfrogged Lewes into sixth spot, Polly Doran with the only goal close to the interval.

Sunderland made a great start in the basement battle at Coventry United, with Emily Scarr hitting a first-half hat-trick. Jessica Brown added the fourth, before Scarr got a fourth of her own following up Tyler Dodds shot against the bar.
