Yesterday we were writing up the Raphinha rollercoaster and how quickly things had changed from “everyone laugh at Arsenal, he’s coming to Chelsea” to “everyone laugh at Chelsea, he’s coming to Barcelona.”
Our one hope at that point was that Barcelona’s financial situation would mean they were unable to pay the transfer fee that Leeds are asking, no matter how much the winger wants to join the Catalan club.
But any hope that that might be the case has been somewhat dampened today by the news that Barca have managed to find a buyer for a share of their TV rights, freeing up some immediate cash that they can spend this summer.
So far, this will probably only give them the money necessary to complete the signings of free agents like Andreas Christensen, but it means that once they’ve made a sale or two, Raphinha should be very affordable for them.
