Philippe Coutinho wants to end his underwhelming spell at Barcelona and make a shock switch to Manchester United this summer.
That’s if you believe the Sunday Mirror, who report that Coutinho is unhappy at Barça and has already spoken to several United players about a potential £100m move to Old Trafford.
The former Liverpool star only moved to Camp Nou in January 2018 but the Brazilian has failed to live up to his £142m price-tag and on Saturday evening, he was jeered by his own supporters for his performance in the 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.
The 26-year-old has reportedly been unable to settle in Catalunya and feels he is more suited to Premier League football.
And with Liverpool unlikely to want him back after the way his protracted departure from Anfield played out, he supposedly has his heart set on his former club’s bitter rivals United.
But if United do want him, they could face stiff competition for his signature from Paris Saint-Germain.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that PSG were interested in Coutinho before his move to Barcelona and could make another move for him in the summer.
Coutinho has so far scored 18 goals in 60 appearances for the Blaugrana and speaking after Saturday’s match, team-mate Gerard Piqué suggested that the playmaker’s hefty transfer fee has been an albatross around his neck.
“Philippe is having a good season,” Piqué told reporters.
“Obviously his cost was very high, so that means there are more expectations of his performance level.
“It is what it is. We have to accept the reaction of the fans because they are our followers but from the inside we have to give him our support.
“We need him at his best for the end of the season and I’m sure he will be.”
