According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that Barcelona remain interested in securing the services of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, despite having multiple names on their transfer shortlist.
It is no secret that the club has been actively working to reinforce the squad, ensuring they remain competitive in all competitions this season.
With Deco leading the club’s transfer strategy, key additions have been made to strengthen the team.
However, one area still needs reinforcement—Barcelona require a left-winger capable of stretching the pitch and providing a direct attacking threat.
Given the number of matches where opponents sit deep, the team needs a player with the ability to break defensive lines using pace, power, and individual skill in one-on-one situations.
While the need for such a player is evident, financial constraints and La Liga’s fair play regulations complicate matters.

Despite initially stepping back from pursuing Nico last summer due to financial concerns, Barcelona have never completely ruled out the possibility of signing him.
The club continues to monitor his situation, particularly because of his release clause, which is currently set at €62 million, including the CPI adjustment.
However, the challenge remains that the full amount would have to be paid upfront, making negotiations difficult.
Nico’s current season at Athletic Bilbao has not been his most productive, with only 16 goal contributions across all competitions—nine goals and seven assists.
When compared to the output of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, his numbers fall short. Yet, Barcelona believe his attributes would make him a valuable addition to Hansi Flick’s system.
His dynamic playing style, ability to create opportunities, and close relationships with several Barcelona players make him a strong candidate for a future move, should financial conditions allow the deal to happen.
