The origin of the ‘Shark’ nickname

In a recent interaction, Ferran Torres has explained where the nickname ‘Shark’ comes from while also talking about his difficulties last season.

“The ‘Shark’ nickname comes from my mentality, I don’t like to lose, I like to improve, I always believe that I can do more,” Torres said (h/t Diario SPORT).

The Spaniard has certainly refused to give up despite his early struggles at Barcelona. After failing to perform last season, the forward was notably linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer.

But sure enough, Ferran refused to leave Camp Nou and wanted to fight for his place in the team in this new season.

The former Manchester City starlet has not disappointed either, as evidenced by his goalscoring numbers so far.

“Last season was difficult”

Ferran Torres also shed light on his struggles at Barcelona last season, while deeming the new season as his best one yet.

“Last season was difficult, but today I think it is the best season of my life because it helped in the process of building the Ferran who I am today,” he said.

Ferran indeed scored only four league goals last term, in a total of 33 matches. His poor return led many to call for his departure in the summer.

But with four goals in all competitions, Ferran has started the new season on a high note and is expected to play a vital role for Barcelona during the remainder of the campaign.
