Another up-and-coming young talent at La Liga giants Barcelona on Monday staked a claim for a first-team berth for the season ahead.
The player in question? Toni Fernández.
Barcelona were of course back in action earlier today, rounding out the club’s pre-season tour of Asia in a friendly meeting with FC Daegu in South Korea.
And en route to an eventual 5-0 rout, the aforementioned Toni played a leading role.
Introduced off the bench at the interval, the 17-year-old showcased exactly why he has so long been tipped as a star in the making behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
Toni looked completely at ease alongside his more senior teammates, with the highlight of a confident showing having come early in the 2nd-half, upon the attacker slotting a fine finish home to make it 4-0.
Hansi Flick has made clear across his short stint as Barcelona manager to date that he is not afraid to lean on youth.
And on Monday, Toni put his name forward as the latest breakthrough contender to play a part in the Blaugrana’s first-team setup for the season ahead.
