As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona youngster Marc Bernal is now in talks with the club over a new long term deal. The negotiations are at a preliminary stage, but there is growing confidence between all parties that a deal can be struck.
Bernal recently signed with new agency CMG Sports. The 16-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League, Serie A and Bundesliga, however Barca remains his priority as he looks to break into the first-team from the academy.
Arsenal had the most genuine interest in the teenager, however the Catalan giants have now opened negotiations with the player and this will likely jeopardise their move for him. The Gunners were monitoring the situation of the player alongside Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and Serie A side Juventus.
The defensive midfielder has made 23 appearances for the academy side this season, scoring two goals and grabbing three assists. Although Bernal is primarily a midfielder, he can also operate at centre-back in emergency situations.
