Barcelona are in contact with Dani Olmo’s representatives and preparing a proposal to sign the midfielder from RB Leipzig.

Olmo was one of the heroes of Spain’s success at Euro 2024 this summer as the midfielder scored three goals and provided two assists in Germany.

The 26-year-old won a share of the tournament’s Golden Boot and became the first Spaniard to score in three consecutive knockout round games at a major tournament.

Leipzig are willing to let Olmo leave this summer if a club meets his €60m valuation. Manchester City have been linked with a move to sign Olmo, though Barcelona are leading the race with Fabrizio Romano revealing the Catalans held talks with the player’s camp over the weekend.

Olmo had been viewed as an alternative to top target Nico Williams, though the Spanish side are pushing to sign both players. Hansi Flick’s side are hoping to beat considerable competition from the Premier League for both players, as the club prepare for a new era under the German manager.

Olmo began his career in the academy system at Barcelona but left at the age of 16 to sign for Dinamo Zagreb. He moved to Leipzig in 2019 and has scored 29 goals in 148 appearances across his five seasons with the Bundesliga side.

Williams, meanwhile, impressed at Athletic Bilbao last season with eight goals and 19 assists in all competitions. The 22-year-old has a release clause in his contract understood to be worth in the region of £46m.

Barcelona could finance the deals with a high-profile sale and Raphinha has been among those linked with an exit. The Brazilian is subject of interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, while the former Leeds United winger has long-term admirers in the Premier League.
