Barcelona’s pursuit of Erling Haaland has picked up steam over the past few months. The Catalans were initially thought to be out of the race for the Norweigan owing to their financial crisis. However, they now seemingly lead the list of candidates.

Several proposals have been put forward to fund the signing of the star striker. A loan seemed to be the most logical option, while sponsorships and player sales also put forth a strong case.

Now, GOAL report that the club have arrived at a new proposal. Barcelona wants to sell 49% stakes of Barça Studios for around €100 million to fund Haaland’s arrival. Moreover, the sale has already been approved by the assembly.

The club have reportedly been informed by La Liga that next season’s FFP margin will be considerably higher, providing a further boost to the dream operation. The sales of the stakes are expected to increase the wage bill from €98 million to €400 million.

Barça Studios is the media production and commercialising unit of the club that was set up by former president Josep Maria Bartomeu in 2019. It primarily includes the management of the club’s television channel Barca TV and generating content for the same.

The situation seems to be a win-win case for the club, for it will not only provide the funds to sign Haalan but also significantly boost the salary limit.
