Although the crucial last stretch of the season will be taking up most of the attention of FC Barcelona, the Blaugranes are also not oblivious to the needs of their team going forward and are already planning their moves for the next summer transfer window.
As was the case last summer, the Catalans will once again try to reinforce their forward line before the start of the next season, and once again, their target in this regard will be none other than the Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, who was very closely linked with them last summer.
Last year, there was a difference of opinion between the top Blaugrana brass, as Hansi Flick and Deco wanted to sign Dani Olmo, while Joan Laporta wanted to sign Williams. However, this time, the club is more clear about its needs, and Flick would value the addition of a winger that suits his style of play.
The only problem now is that the Basque winger plays in the same position as Raphinha, arguably the best Barcelona player this season, whom Deco is also looking to renew. Meanwhile, if a highly alluring offer came in for the Brazilian, his departure can also not be ruled out.
But whether Raphinha decides to stay or leave will not have a lot of impact on the Catalan club’s pursuit of Nico, who, according to SPORT, wants to have his future sorted out before the start of the pre-season for most teams in Europe, i.e. 15th July, in order to avoid the uncertainty that he had to face last year.
The Spaniard’s release clause this summer will still be €62 million, a figure that is within the reach of FC Barcelona. However, getting him registered within their salary cap is another matter, and it is in this regard that the Blaugranes will face the most problems, especially as they are no longer operating under the 1:1 rule.
