We are approaching the final phase of the January transfer window and the clock is already ticking.

For Barcelona, it has been a busy window with the club notably sanctioning the sale of Memphis Depay to Atletico Madrid. But to alleviate his loss, the club have yet to sign a new player in the market.

Much of it has been attributed to the club’s limited resources and capital, coupled with the Financial Fair Play rules that have crippled their powers in the market.

However, according to Ferran Martinez (h/t Reshad Rahman), Barcelona are still on the hunt for the winger in the final hours of the transfer market. It appears coach Xavi Hernandez is keen on bolstering the attacking unit that has been affected by the departure of Depay.

As mentioned earlier, Barcelona have a minimal FFP margin, with various reports suggesting that the club can only loan players without a mandatory purchase option. They have a margin of spending only €3 million over the course of six months.

There is a sense of pessimism within the Barcelona camp, as far as the possibility of a new signing is concerned. But the club are expected to try until the last minute. They have several options on the table and are currently in the process of assessing said options.

The Catalans do not want to rush into anything as of yet. They have been mainly linked with moves for fullbacks such as Benjamin Pavard, Juan Foyth and even Pedro Porro. But they are unlikely to be available until the end of the season.

Barça, though, have kept tabs on younger players as well and it will be interesting to see whether or not the club can land on some hidden gems in these final hours of the transfer market.
