After signing the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde in the month of July, FC Barcelona have set their sights firmly on the signing of Bernardo Silva in August.

The Manchester City superstar has emerged as the priority target for Xavi Hernandez as he looks to add a reliable partner for Pedri in the interior midfield position.

Spanish journalist Alex Pintanel has recently offered an update on Barça’s pursuit of Silva, suggesting the move is far from simple from the Catalans’ perspective. The club are yet to even launch an official bid for the playmaker so far and have a long way to go.

However, Pintanel does suggest that Barcelona are soon expected to come up with an official bid for Silva. They are unlikely to pay as much as reported in the English press too, meaning anything around the €100 million is unlikely to be the value of the Portuguese international.

Pintanel does add that Barça are not in great financial shape. Their inflated wage bill is crippling their powers in the market in the month of August.

Nevertheless, the Catalans have a couple of avenues if they are to secure the services of Silva this summer. One of them could be the sale of Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman has fallen out of favour with the club and the fans. He has struggled to live up to the expectations at Barça either, which was one of the key reasons that compelled the club to put him on the transfer list.

Pintanel believes the sale of de Jong could be paramount if Barcelona are to afford the Manchester City superstar this summer. But the club’s healthy relationship with Man City could play its part as well, as the Catalans look to convince the English champions to offload one of the biggest assets.
