It seems that a single day of normality is something that is simply impossible at FC Barcelona. From registration issues to contractual troubles, the club always remains muddled up in some complications. Fortunately, however, this is the most peaceful that Barcelona has felt in the last couple of weeks.
After finally sorting out the registration mess involving Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, Barcelona have recently managed to put a halt to another growing problem as well. One of the team’s key players, Ronald Araujo, was reportedly looking to move away from the club in January.
However, Barcelona have instead managed to convince the player to stay at the club at least until the summer. Furthermore, recent reports suggested that the Catalan giants had even managed to get the team captain to agree in principle to a new contract that still needs to be finalized.
Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona already have an idea regarding what measures they will take to convince Araujo to formally extend his contract. Firstly, the club is set to hold a summit with his representatives, and it will involve the club’s Sporting Director Deco as well.
While the player himself has reportedly agreed to the new contract, and the conditions are known to the player’s representatives, a formal consensus is yet to be reached. However, Barcelona have already decided to be more flexible in the negotiations in order to give the Uruguayan defender some much-needed leverage.
Understanding his concerns about a lack of prominence and opportunities, especially with the news of Barcelona potentially signing Jonathan Tah as well, the club would like to give some leeway to the Barça captain that would make it easier for him to leave in the summer if he feels that the situation has not changed significantly. Fortunately, however, both parties are optimistic about reaching an agreement.
For now, the primary objective is to come to an agreement with his representatives over the duration of the new contract and the new release clause to be added in as well. Ideally, Barcelona would like to extend his stay for five more years beyond just 2026, but they also wish to grant him some leverage should he wish to consider other options.
However, the club hopes to extend the stay of the €55 million-rated defender and that remains the ultimate objective. While they are more open to being understanding of the player’s position, they are certain that a positive conclusion can be reached, especially with the player having softened his stance about staying at Barcelona.
