In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona wanted to sell Fermin Lopez this summer. It is understood that the Spanish talent is currently facing an uncertain future at the Catalan club following the closure of the summer transfer window.

Lopez’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football

Lopez enjoyed a good run of form at the Catalan club last season when he produced a string of eye-catching displays for them in La Liga. The 22-year-old found the back of the net on eight occasions and earned ten assists in 46 appearances for Barcelona in the previous campaign across various competitions.

The Spanish talent proved his worth in the final third as he averaged 2.95 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He kept 36.6% of his attempts on target. Lopez was even excellent when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 81.8% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via fbef.com).

Lopez is under contract at the Catalan club until the summer of 2029. Hence, there is no immediate need for Barca to cash in on him.

Does Lopez Have A Future At Barcelona?

Lopez is a technically gifted playmaker who can create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He can strike the ball with power from long range and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.

The Spain international can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-winger if told to do so by his manager.

Lopez has not been a regular starter for Barcelona this season. With his game time cut short, he could be in for a frustrating campaign at the Catalan club.

At 22, the future looks quite bright for the Spanish talent as long as he can improve with each season. Thus, it is only fair to the player if Barca boss Hansi Flick lets him leave when the transfer window reopens this January. Lopez is surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp and is facing an uncertain future at Barcelona. Hence, he could benefit from a change of scenery in search of more first-team starts, either on loan or permanently next year.
