In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona wanted to land Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz last summer. It has been stated that the Catalan club were showing interest in recruiting the Spanish talent.
The 27-year-old is having a decent campaign at the French club after he produced a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Spanish midfield ace has found the back of the net once and earned one assist in ten matches for PSG this season across all competitions.
Ruiz has been a consistent performer off the bench as he is averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.6 clearances, 0.7 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass success rate of 90% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it would take a big fee for Barcelona to lure him to the Nou Camp next year.

Ruiz is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make a few important clearances for his side inside his half. He can strike the ball purely and with power from long range. Ruiz is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a defensive midfielder or in the number ten position if needed.
The Spanish sensation has even got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a killer pass on the offensive end of the field. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and would have been a great acquisition for Barcelona last summer.
However, Ruiz is under a long-term contract at Paris Saint-Germain, so it won’t be easy for the Catalan club to sign him in 2024.
Still, there is no denying that Ruiz would be an excellent signing for Barca if they can find a way to get a deal done for him next summer. He would add more quality to Xavi’s midfield and could help the Catalan giants win even more silverware over the next few years.
