Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has opened up on the news that Xavi will continue as the club’s head coach next season.

Xavi announced his intention to walk away from the Spanish side in January, though talks with president Joan Laporta have prompted a U-turn on that decision.

The 44-year-old, who made 787 appearances during his playing career with the club and led Barcelona to the La Liga title in 2022/23, will remain at the Camp Nou until the end of his contract at least, which expires in 2025.

The club’s vice-president, Yuste, has said Barcelona have full belief in Xavi despite a difficult defence of their title and said the Catalans are keen to ‘make history again’ with ‘people from home.’

“Xavi wants to develop his project that is being forged with the young people who are coming up. I am very happy about its continuity,” he told Jijantes.

“Deco trusts Xavi 100%. This season I am left with the enthusiasm that we have awakened in the culer fans.

“Losing must have consequences, yes, but with nuances. We have competed and the game has been improved.

“With Xavi there is friendship and we are culers. We want to make history again, and we will. This project continues, above all, with people from home.

“We hope to return to the new Camp Nou in November. We will compete until the end because as long as there is life there is hope. I want Xavi to be the coach at the New Camp Nou.”
