In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Barcelona want to land Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. It is understood that the Catalan giants are eyeing a move to bring the Morocco international on board this summer.

Amrabat’s Decent Run Of Form At The Stadio Artemio Franchi

Amrabat is having a solid campaign at Florence this season as he has managed to put in a string of dominant displays at the centre of the park. The 26-year-old has made 44 appearances for the Italian club this season, picking up one assist in multiple competitions.

The Moroccan sensation has anchored the midfield well by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 0.6 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 89.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Fiorentina is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Thus, Barcelona have got a good shot at recruiting Amrabat on the cheap in the upcoming transfer window.

What Will Amrabat Add To Barcelona Head Coach Xavi’s Team?

Amrabat can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life tough for the opposition in the middle of the park. He can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed.

The Moroccan midfield ace is a good passer of the ball as well but needs to add a few goals to his game if he wants to taste success at the highest level. Amrabat mainly functions as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if his manager tells him to do so.

We can expect the 46-time Morocco international to add more bite and steel to Barcelona boss Xavi‘s midfield. At the very least, he will increase competition for places within Barca‘s match-day squad.

At 26, Amrabat is about to enter the peak years of his playing career. Hence, the Catalan club would be wise to try everything they can to lure him to the Nou Camp when the transfer window reopens later this year. However, only time will tell whether Amrabat can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga.
