Barcelona are keen for Cesar Azpilicueta to hand in a formal transfer request at Chelsea to speed up a move to the Catalan club.
That’s according to a story in the Daily Mail today, where it’s claimed that Barca are rushing to sign the 32 year old before their preseason starts next month.
There’s long been talk about the veteran making the move back to his home country, and it still seems likely. But as we all know, transfer requests don’t mean much in the modern game. If Azpi tells the Chelsea chiefs he wants to go, that’s effectively a transfer request, and it will have no real bearing on the decision they make.
It is understood that after ten years of loyal service, and with just one year left on his contract Chelsea are happy to let Azpi go where he wants. A transfer request doesn’t change much on that front.
