Barcelona are set to take on Bayern Munich later tonight, in what will arguably be the biggest test for coach Hansi Flick since he was appointed as the head coach of the Catalan outfit.

Most of the focus heading into this game has revolved around Bayern’s infamous 8-2 victory over Barcelona in 2020. At that time, Flick was the coach of FC Bayern.

Four years later, Flick has the opportunity to build a new image for himself in front of Barcelona fans by exacting revenge on his former employers.

Rafa Yuste optimistic about Barcelona’s chances

However, Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste is not thinking too much about taking revenge, as we approach this crucial encounter.

“We are not thinking about revenge, but about winning the match,” Yuste said (h/t Mundo Deportivo) about tonight’s game.

Yuste was speaking after a customary lunch between the board of directors of two clubs, with the meeting being led by Joan Laporta and Bayern president Herbert Hainer.

“I see a great match, for me revenge is about taking the tension away. Revenge takes the tension away and we go in with the intention of winning. Revenge and these things can make one lose focus,” Yuste added.

The Barcelona vice-president went on to offer optimism for Barcelona heading into this crucial Champions League affair.

“We are going in with a lot of desire because we are in a good moment of play, respecting our opponents. We are two of Europe’s greats, with many Champions League titles, but we are going out with the conviction that we are going to win,” he concluded.

Yuste’s statement will certainly go a long way in dousing the tension in the Barcelona dressing room, as they gear up for potentially the most important match of the season so far.
