Following his sending-off against Deportivo Alaves for a dangerous tackle on Antonio Blanco last weekend, Real Madrid megastar Kylian Mbappe learned the length of his suspension earlier this week.
Despite concerns that the French forward could be facing a lengthy ban, he was handed only a one-match suspension by the RFEF Disciplinary Committee, much to the relief of Real Madrid.
It now means that the 26-year-old will only miss the upcoming La Liga encounter against Athletic Club and his involvement in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona later this month is no longer in jeopardy.
Naturally, the RFEF’s decision to hand Mbappe only a one-match suspension has not gone down too well in the Barcelona camp.

Indeed, the Catalan club’s vice president, Rafa Yuste, recently spoke to the media and lashed out at the verdict, calling it a ‘disgrace’.
“The tackle and the sanction is absolutely absurd. It was chilling and could have injured the opponent. It’s a disgrace,” said Yuste, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Real Madrid and Barcelona have already squared off twice this season, with the Blaugrana coming out on top on both occasions – once in La Liga and once in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Over the next couple of weeks, the two teams will collide again – first in the Copa del Rey final and later in La Liga with the title race in the balance.
It goes without saying that Mbappe will have a huge role to play if Real Madrid are to turn around their fortunes in the Clasico matches this season and stand a chance to defeat Hansi Flick’s men.
