FC Barcelona continue to push forward with its squad planning for the 2025/26 season. Following several key renewals, including Lamine Yamal’s extension until 2031, the club’s priority is to secure the medium-term future of a team built around young talent.

Among those players is Eric Garcia. The defender had a limited role at the beginning of the season, which became even more restricted in late October when he suffered an injury.

After recovering, he struggled to re-enter the team and began to consider offers from other clubs in January, particularly from Girona, casting doubt over his continuity at Barça.

However, it was Hansi Flick who played a decisive role in persuading Garcia to stay in Barcelona until the end of the season.

That proved pivotal as Garcia not only delivered solid defensive performances but also contributed crucial goals, playing a key part in Barça’s La Liga and Copa del Rey victories and their run to the Champions League semi-finals.

Eric hints at Barcelona stay

Given his worth and the value he offers with his versatility and tactical understanding, Barcelona are working on extending his contract, which expires in 2026.

Ahead of the match between Catalonia and Costa Rica, Garcia spoke to TV3 about his future and made his intentions clear, hinting that he intends to continue at the club.

“I have one more year left on my contract, we have had a very good season and next season we will try to improve on it, if we can,” he stated.

Despite moments during the season when an exit seemed likely, Garcia’s patience and versatility made him a key figure in Flick’s squad.

Primarily as a central defender, he also played as a holding midfielder and adapted to a right-back role, becoming one of the team’s most reliable options.

Garcia is under contract with Barça until 30 June 2026, and the club has already opened talks with his agent, Ivan de la Pena, to evaluate his long-term role. Judging by his comments, the player’s wish is clear: to continue wearing the Blaugrana shirt.
