According to journalist Jose Alvarez Haya on El Chiringuito TV, Gerard Martin has turned down a big-money offer from the Premier League.

As such, the 23-year-old defender wants to continue at Barcelona despite the challenges he is currently facing with his registration status.

At the moment, Martin is not officially registered in La Liga, meaning he cannot feature in league matches.

Hansi Flick, however, has been pushing hard for the full-back to be included in the squad list before Barcelona’s next clash against Levante.

The German coach has already expressed his frustration with the ongoing registration issues at the club, as once again, he is left with an incomplete squad.

Against Mallorca, Flick was able to call upon Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford, but Gerard Martin, Roony Bardghji, and Wojciech Szczęsny were all unavailable due to the same problem.

This uncertainty has sparked transfer rumours, with Premier League clubs circling.

While Barcelona had considered selling Martin earlier in the summer, the departure of Inigo Martinez changed the situation. Flick instead decided to keep the defender and began experimenting with his role.

During pre-season, Martin impressed as a makeshift centre-back, showing his ability to adapt and perform outside his natural left-back position.

With academy talent Jofre Torrents emerging in the left-back slot, Flick now has the option of using Martin as a central defender whenever the need arises.

Despite the competition for places, Gerard Martin has no doubts about where he wants to be. The young defender has made it clear that he will not leave Barcelona, confident that his hard work and versatility will earn him more chances under Flick this season.

After getting valuable minutes last year, Martin now sees his future at the Camp Nou, a decision that strengthens the squad’s depth and provides Flick with greater tactical flexibility.
