Ronald Araujo’s departure from Barcelona was not a topic many expected to flood Spanish media quite as swiftly as it has.
The Uruguayan defender has always sworn his loyalty to the club, after all, and was one of the captains and leaders on the field before his injury in the summer.
Now faced with competition from the well-settled pairing of Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi, he is having second thoughts about continuing at the club and Barcelona are not happy with the sudden developments.
In a recent update, AS brings to light that Barcelona feel Araujo is forcing the circumstances around him and pressurising the club to sell him. His entire approach to the situation has left the board puzzled.

After all, Barcelona have not ignored or shown reduced importance to him at any point even when he was injured and the player had two offers on his table to renew his contract at the club.
Araujo has rejected both of Barcelna’s renewal proposals so far and it is strange that he is suddenly pushing for a mid-season departure just weeks after transmitting calmness around his future.
The Blaugrana are fed up with the commotion in the media and wish to put an end to it at the earliest.
Barcelona will thus meet with Araujo’s entourage immediately after the Spanish Super Cup and finalise their stance on the entire situation. Either a departure or a renewal will be decided on in the meetings that ensue.
If Araujo is indeed to leave, Barcelona will not accept any sum close to as low as is being rumoured in the media.
As one of the captains of the club and the best defenders in the world, they know well of his value and will not bend.
