FC Barcelona has officially confirmed that their young player, Gavi, suffered a severe injury during his match for Spain on Sunday. The 19-year-old has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and will be unable to play for the remainder of the season.
Gavi will also undergo surgery later this week for an injury to his lateral meniscus. Furthermore, there is currently no timetable for Gavi’s return. Still, his injury will likely prevent him from participating in UEFA Euro 2024 and the Olympic Games with Spain next summer.
As a result, Barcelona has to look for a replacement once the January transfer window opens. Who will the Catalan side pursue? Mundo Deportivo cites two Paris Saint-Germain players as possible targets.
The Spanish media outlet recommends Fabián Ruiz and Carlos Soler as possible solutions to replace Gavi for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. It will be hard to envision PSG helping a team that they could potentially face in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage should they advance.
Ruiz has been in the rumor mill over the last few weeks. However, with the injury to Warren Zaire-Emery, the Ligue 1 side might be reluctant to give up players and concede any depth. Nonetheless, seeing if these two players become targets for the Spanish club will be interesting.
