As has been their custom for quite some time now, FC Barcelona are once again relying a lot on youth this season, and under Hansi Flick, have also been able to get the best out of their young players.
Most of their youngsters have come from their own youth system, but the Catalans are also keeping an eye on the young talent emerging in other clubs across Europe and beyond.
One of the players that they are keeping an eye on currently is the 21-year-old Croatian midfielder Martin Baturina, who has been playing at a very high level with Dinamo Zagreb and is already being touted as the ‘new Modric.’
However, according to SPORT, Barcelona is not the only major European club tracking the talented midfielder. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in him.
The Croatian midfielder rejected a five-year contract offer from Real Madrid, with the European champions proposing that he spend the first two years of the deal on loan at another La Liga club. Meanwhile, Barcelona continues to monitor his situation.
On the other hand, PSG are in advanced talks with Baturina and are reportedly considering a €25 million offer to secure his signature in January. However, Dinamo Zagreb are keen to retain him, as he is a key player in their squad.
This season, Baturina has featured in 20 matches, scoring 2 goals and providing 7 assists. In total, he has made 140 appearances for Dinamo and has earned 9 caps for the Croatian national team, including appearances in UEFA EURO 2024.
As the 21-year-old attacking midfielder continues to impress, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will make a concrete effort to bring him to the Catalan capital. However, given the wealth of attacking midfielders already at the club and the need to reinforce other areas of the squad, a move for the Croatian in the near future appears unlikely.
