Joan Garcia is the name dominating the headlines in the Barcelona sphere, with the La Liga champions keen on signing the goalkeeper from local rivals RCD Espanyol.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper enjoyed a brilliant La Liga season and was a huge reason behind the Parakeets surviving the threat of relegation.

Considering his cult hero status at Espanyol, the player has concerns about the social impact of his potential move from his boyhood club to bitter rivals Barcelona.

Joan Garcia’s entourage believes transfer will happen

However, according to journalist Adria Albets (h/t Actualite Barça), those close to Joan Garcia have stated that they believe that the Spanish goalkeeper’s transfer to Barcelona this summer will go through.

The journalist adds that it does not necessarily guarantee that the move will happen, but there is a strong belief within the 24-year-old’s entourage that he can sign for the Blaugrana.

There has been speculation that Barça could loan Garcia out for a season after signing him if Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny both stay at the club.

However, at the same time, the possibility that the Espanyol ace is brought in to challenge for the No. 1 spot also exists, which could convince Ter Stegen to move on from the club after over a decade.

It must be noted that Garcia is also attracting strong interest from the Premier League with clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle United said to be interested.

So, it remains to be seen how things evolve in the coming weeks as Barcelona hope to convince the player to switch allegiance from their cross-town rivals.
