They don’t call the transfer window the silly season for nothing.
With just days remaining before the winter window closes, we may be about to see one of the most bizarre deals ever go through.
Barcelona are in desperate need of a striker to replace Luis Suárez and their search has led them to Valencia’s Rodrigo Moreno.
As Superdeporte reported with a story that is now being backed up by Sport and Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana have hatched on a ridiculous plan to get their man.
They are now closing in on Bruno Fernandes of Sporting CP, a man who has been linked with Manchester United all month, in an apparent €60m deal.
But the Blaugrana will immediately loan the Portugal international to Los Che as part of the Rodrigo deal in order to secure their Suárez back-up.
Incredible as it may sound, that is a big topic on the agenda at Barcelona HQ on Tuesday evening as they discuss final plans to secure Rodrigo’s services.
Fernandes has been in strong form in Lisbon this season with 15 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, attracting strong interest from Old Trafford.
It is unclear if he would have a long-term future at the Camp Nou after his loan spell at the Mestalla finished at the end of the campaign.
Finally, Mundo Deportivo also state that Sporting’s interest in Barça B forward Abel Ruiz is completely separate from the Rodrigo or Fernandes issues.
Buckle up, we’re in for a wild final few days!
