Barcelona are in a spot of bother right now, having failed to meet the deadline for the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Following the missed registrations, the club could be staring at a loss of €263 million.
However, that has not stopped the club from pursuing their near-term targets, which is to find a contract renewal agreement for a few of the star players, including Frenkie de Jong.
According to Diario AS, Barcelona have resumed contract talks with the Dutch midfielder over a new deal.
This comes against the backdrop of intense tension between the two parties, with Barcelona already fearing that the midfielder may opt to run down his contract and then leave for free in 2026.
In recent months, de Jong has struggled to re-establish himself as a first-team regular under Hansi Flick.

The Dutchman has fallen behind the likes of Marc Casado and Pedri in the pecking order, thus leading to a reduced status within the team.
But after a period of tension, it appears Barcelona and de Jong have moved their positions closer and are willing to talk about the new contract.
Barcelona have a clear predicament, which may later play as a bottleneck for the negotiations. Although sporting director Deco is willing to offer de Jong a new contract, it could come with a significant reduction in the player’s salary.
This may, sooner or later, create problems for de Jong, who is currently among the highest earners at not only Barcelona but La Liga as a whole.
It must be noted that a salary reduction is considered acceptable by de Jong’s agents. However, the extent of the reduction could go a long way in dictating the outcome of the talks.
Barcelona’s game plan is clear: Put pressure on de Jong and avoid the scenario where the midfielder may leave the club on a free transfer.
