Florian Wirtz has become a hot topic in Barcelona lately, with rumours rife over the German’s potential exit from Bayer Leverkusen.

Although the youngster is not likely to depart Bay Arena in the coming summer, his future has become of great interest to Barça, who are potentially eyeing a 2024 move for the German international.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are set to face stiff competition from arch-rivals Real Madrid in the race to sign Wirtz.

It appears the Spanish giants are also monitoring the development of the Bayer Leverkusen starlet, who has featured in almost 100 competitive matches at the age of just 19.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Wirtz has impressed onlookers with his creativity in the final third. He is also capable of scoring goals and operating out wide, making him an ideal target for Barcelona.

The German international could indeed build an ideal foundation in the attacking department, alongside the likes of Gavi and Ousmane Dembele. And with Ansu Fati facing an uncertain future at the club, Wirtz could be an ideal fix.

However, the interest from Real Madrid could be a worrying prospect for Barça. The Spanish champions have far more economic firepower than the Catalans right now and will not flinch about spending a fortune on someone like Wirtz, who has shown immense potential.

It must also be noted that apart from these two Spanish giants, Premier League clubs, including Liverpool are also monitoring the player closely. Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a huge admirer of the Leverkusen starlet, and may also join the race to sign the player in the summer of 2024.

As things stand, though, Wirtz has no desire to leave Leverkusen in the summer. He wants to remain in the Bundesliga for at least another year and take part in the 2024 Euro as one of the key stars of the German national team.
