No fewer than four headline members of the first-team setup at La Liga giants Barcelona are set to sit out the club’s next outing.

This comes on the back of proceedings in Barca’s latest outing on Sunday night.

The Blaugrana, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to San Mamés for a showdown with an Athletic Club outfit brimming with confidence.

When all was said and done in something of an understated affair, the two sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, owing to a goalless stalemate.

Two dropped points amid their efforts to hunt down Real Madrid and Girona above them in the La Liga table, though, proved just the tip of the iceberg when it came to Barcelona’s concerns on Sunday.

As much comes with the Catalans having been dealt a whole host of blows on the personnel front, too.

Midfield pair Pedri and Frenkie de Jong were both forced into premature departures from the action – with what have since been labelled potentially serious injuries – during the first-half.

The duo, as a result, are expected to spend at least the next couple of weeks on the sidelines.

Not only that, but teammate Ronald Araújo picked up a yellow card, as did head coach Xavi Hernández.

With both having now been booked on five occasions across the length of the season, Araújo and Xavi are in turn facing up to a one-game La Liga suspension.

This means that, when they play host to RCD Mallorca next Friday night, Barcelona will be without all of Pedri, De Jong, Araújo, and Xavi.
