Barcelona have held talks with Dembélé’s agent after the winger missed training on Thursday and have reportedly backed the player to be a success.
Dropped from Sunday’s 4-3 defeat by Real Betis, speculation has grown over the forward’s Camp Nou future.
Dembélé, who signed from Borussia Dortmund in a €154m deal in 2017, reportedly missed a practise session last week due to a stomach bug though he had recovered by the time he was by the club doctor. Though following his absence, he missed Barcelona’s last game.
Since the furore, Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona technical secretary Eric Abidal and general manager Pep Segura met with the player’s agent Moussa Sissoko at the Sofia Hotel to discuss his future and believe he can still be an integral first-team star.
However, while backing him, the club are understood to be keen to see a more positive contribution from Dembélé due to the massive outlay to bring him to Catalonia.
The 21-year-old was not at the meeting as he is now with the France squad on international duty.
Dembélé has scored six goals in 15 appearances so far this season.
