Barcelona’s pre-season has offered a rare glimpse into the next generation of talent emerging from La Masia, and one name that is quietly standing out is Jofre Torrents.
The young left-back has caught the eye of Hansi Flick and his coaching staff, which is why it came as no surprise that Torrents clocked the most minutes among academy players in the club’s three pre-season friendlies so far.
The 18-year-old was a constant presence during the Asian tour, featuring heavily in matches against Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul, and Daegu FC.
His extended time on the pitch has largely been down to tactical adjustments by Flick, who deployed Gerard Martin in central defence due to Inigo Martinez’s absence.
This allowed Torrents to step up and show what he could offer down the left flank and he didn’t disappoint.
Barcelona return to training today ahead of the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Como on August 10, and Flick has once again called up several homegrown players to continue training with the first team.

The likes of Guille Fernandez, Toni Fernandez, Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, Roony Bardghji, and Torrents will all remain involved in the first-team dynamic for now, which is a sign that they may be involved on Sunday.
Among these names, SPORT reports that the young full-back is once again expected to get the most minutes than his youth team peers against Como, as they see him as an important player for the future.
While the club is not rushing Torrents into a permanent first-team role, they recognise his potential, and if his performances continue to impress, he could find himself fast-tracked sooner than expected.
With Alejandro Balde the undisputed starter and Gerard Martin providing solid backup, Barcelona are taking a patient approach.
Still, games like the Joan Gamper offer the perfect opportunity to test young players under pressure, and Torrents is expected to feature again.
