As Barcelona look to close out their campaign on Sunday against Athletic Club, all eyes will be on Lamine Yamal.

The youngster’s future has been in focus in recent weeks amid Barcelona’s efforts to tie him down to a long-term contract.

Yamal is expected to pen a new deal at Barcelona that could see him become the third-highest earner at the club.

One dribble away from history

Yamal, for his part, though, won’t be all too flustered with the noise around him surrounding a potential new contract.

The teenage prospect will look to focus on his own game and close out the season on a high note. In fact, he has a glorious opportunity to beat Neymar’s record of dribbles completed in a single season at Barcelona, reports SPORT.

As things stand, Yamal has completed a whopping 239 successful dribbles at Barcelona this season, equalling the tally of Neymar in the 2016/17 campaign.

One more successful dribble against Athletic Club, therefore, could be enough to see him break Neymar’s record.

The report adds that Yamal has attempted a total of 448 dribbles this season, with a success rate of 53%.

Yamal is already among the top five players with the most dribbles completed in a single season since detailed records began in 2014/15.

Lionel Messi tops this list, having notably completed 307 dribbles during the 2014/15 campaign, which is an all-time high.

Messi had also completed 260 dribbles in 2019/20 and 253 in 2017/18. Yamal, therefore, still has a long way to go before he can touch Messi’s records, at least in terms of dribbling.
