Barcelona will be hoping to reinforce their team one of the last times this summer as they look to complete their squad rebuild that has been in the works for a fair few years.

There are a lot of areas of concern for Xavi, who has decided to continue as the coach next season, with the holding midfield position understandably being the top priority.

The coach also wants Barcelona to sign a top full-back and an ace card like Bernardo Silva to compete in Europe.

At the same time, the centre-forward role is one that Barcelona would need to think about, with their assets on the opposite ends of the spectrum in 35-year-old Robert Lewandowski and 18 and 19-year-olds Marc Guiu and Vitor Roque.

All three strikers are also facing an uncertain future at the club, with Roque and Guiu linked with loans, while reports suggest that Lewa is facing an uncertain future due to his underwhelming form.

Xavi asks Barcelona to reinforce attack

As per a report published by El Pais, Barcelona are looking to bolster the attack this summer and have identified Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez as one of the players they wish to sign.

The Uruguayan international signed for Liverpool for €75 million in the summer of 2022, but his two seasons in Merseyside have not particularly gone according to plan.

He only netted nine goals in 29 appearances last season, and is currently on 11 goals across 32 games in the Premier League this season. His poor conversation rate has been a major talking point for Pool.

Recommended by Luis Suarez

While Nunez has not done entirely well at Liverpool, his signing was passively recommended to Barcelona by the legendary Luis Suarez in 2019, who heaped praise on his compatriot, who was only 19 at the time.

“Some forwards I suggested, but they told me that (Darwin Núñez) was very young,” Suarez had said in an interview in 2019 about the then-Almeria forward.

Nunez has been valued at €70 million by Transfermarkt, but Liverpool are expected to ask in excess of €100 million, at least, for Nunez’s services if they decide to sell him. And even that decision will go through whoever takes over Jurgen Klopp as coach in the summer.
