Barcelona target seeks registration guarantees ahead of summer move | OneFootball

Barcelona are hoping to conclude the Nico Williams saga as early as next week as they prepare to pay out the winger’s release clause and incorporate him as a new player.

The player’s desire, needless to say, echoes the same plan and Williams is desperate to undo his mistake of last year.

Athletic Club have posed some serious hurdles and refused to negotiate any fee for the player, forcing Barcelona to take the release clause route. On that front too, the Basque side tried to create problems by meeting and discussing with La Liga.

Nico wants guarantees

As relayed by MARCA, Nico Williams is clear on his desire to join Barcelona but is asking for a guarantee from the administration that he will be registered without any hiccups for the upcoming season.

After all, paying out the player’s release clause will liberate him from his contract with the Basque giants but provides no guarantee that Barcelona can register him. That step is purely governed by the Catalans’ financial situation and their FFP situation.

Last season, Barcelona faced serious troubles in registering Dani Olmo and Pau Victor and eventually had to make use of Andreas Christensen’s injury to ensure the same. In January, they required an intervention from the CSD to keep them registered.

Nico, thus, is not wrong on his part in any capacity to demand assurance from Joan Laporta and Co. that he can be registered without any trouble.

The Barcelona president is confident, for his part, is confident that the operation can sail smoothly and that the club is in a favourable economic state. They may not be in the 1:1 criteria as it stands, but they are not far off.

Moreover, the Spanish international is willing to accept a flexible salary structure to facilitate easy registration which further eases the process.
